David was accompanied by grand officer David Durling (group chairman) and other distinguished Provincial grand officers, (some of whom had travelled from as far as London), group officers and numerous visiting brethren present for the installation meeting.

On opening the lodge, Iain announced the sad news of the passing of lodge member Cliff Bevan and former lodge member Peter Grey, after which junior deacon David Emmett gave a brief but moving eulogy. Having discharged the lodge business and opened the lodge up to the third degree, the point arrived where the grand officers entered the lodge room, David and his fellow grand officer having been welcomed by Iain, took their respective places.

Iain commenced the ceremony of installing Andrew into the chair which was completed in a most exemplary and sincere manner. Having been carefully placed in the master’s chair, Andrew took a few moments to soak up the atmosphere and come to terms with the fact that he was the worshipful master.

The working tools of all three degrees were then presented in an excellent and sincere manner by Andrew Davies. Lodge DC, Sylvester During presented an excellent address to the master followed by David presenting a very pleasant address to the brethren of the lodge.

On completion of the ceremony, David rose and brought the congratulations and good wishes for a happy and healthy year from the Provincial Grand Master Tony Harrison. David said that had Tony been present, he would have witnessed a most excellent installation ceremony and similarly and on Tony’s behalf, congratulated the immediate past master, Iain for his most excellent work and similarly congratulated Sylvester in his role as director of ceremonies.

Andrew rose to respond to David where he thanked him for conveying those very kind wishes, he said he was most proud to be installed as WM and looked forward to his year ahead. Andrew then presented David with a charitable donation by way of a cheque for £200 made out to the MCF.

On the first rising, David Durling responded on behalf of the grand officers adding his congratulations and good wishes as he welcomed Andrew as a ruler of the Craft of Fallowfield Lodge.

The meeting having ended, a very friendly and buoyant festive board complete with all those present manfully singing various Christmas carols continued. David, responding to his toast commented on the continued harmony of the lodge (the rendition of the carols not withstanding), now into its 104th year. He reminded everyone about the Group Grand Ball in March and broached the subject of the Ambassador Scheme which was helping to increase membership numbers by ‘blowing our own trumpet’!
