Members and visitors of Fallowfield Lodge No 3693 were honoured and delighted in welcoming the presence of Assistant Provincial Grand Master John Hutton to their installation meeting to witness Dr Emmanuel Cleeve install Dr Sahr Kondeh as WM for the ensuing year.
John was in good company being accompanied by grand officers Mike Adams (group chairman), Brian Hayes, David Durling (group vice chairman) and Zac Smith along with other distinguished Provincial grand officers, (of which many had travelled from as far as London), group officers and numerous visiting brethren present for the installation meeting.
Emmanuel, having discharged the lodge business and opening the lodge up to the third degree, the timely point arrived where the grand officers entered the quite literally full lodge room, John and his fellow grand officers having been welcomed by Emmanuel took their respective places.
Emmanuel commenced the ceremony of installing Sahr into the chair which was completed in a most exemplary and at one point, a most amusingly ‘forceful manner’. Having recovered from his most definite placement into the master chairs, Sahr took a few moments to realise, and in all humility, he was in fact the actual worshipful master.
The working tools of an installed master were presented by Cliff Bevan, followed by the working in the third degree, second and first degrees by director of ceremonies, Sylvester During. Emmanuel presented an excellent address to the master followed by Sylvester presenting the address to the wardens and finally followed by John, who presented a very pleasant address to the brethren of the lodge.
On completion of the ceremony, John rose and brought the congratulations and good wishes for a happy and healthy year from the Provincial Grand Master Tony Harrison. John said that had Tony been present, he would have witnessed a most grand installation ceremony and similarly on Tony’s behalf, congratulated the immediate past master, Emmanuel for his excellent work and similarly congratulated Sylvester in his role as director of ceremonies.
Sahr rose to respond to John where he thanked John for conveying those very kind wishes, he said he was most proud to be installed as WM and looked forward to his year ahead. Sahr then presented John with a charitable donation by way of a cheque for £300 made out to the West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity. John thanked the brethren for their generosity.
On the first rising, Mike Adams responded on behalf of the grand officers adding their congratulations and good wishes concurring with those transmitted by John, but also welcomed Sahr as a ruler of the craft in the South Eastern Group.
Mike also took a moment to comment on a very sad event from the previous day, where at a more than full Manchester Cathedral, he had attended a funeral service of a passed and most beloved Fallowfield Lodge member, Victor Mambu, a most respected brother who had lost his life to cancer. Mike said he was most proud as the group chairman and felt overwhelmed to witness the clear message of brotherly love and support towards Victor’s family from the lodge members and also the very high presence of Masonic members who had travelled from afar to be present for the service and committal. Mike’s comments had clearly touched the hearts’ of the brethren because the silence within the lodge room was clearly broken by a rapture of applause from all the brethren.
The meeting having ended, a very friendly and buoyant festive board continued into the evening where the responses were plentiful, amusing and thoughtful. The evening concluded a most enjoyable and memorable meeting in the annals of the lodge history.
